Alan Alda once said, "The creative is the place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. What you'll discover will be wonderful. What you'll discover is yourself."
Isn't that beautiful? I believe every bit of that quote. Intuition is a powerful thing if you can tap into it. I have written before about my love of art and living an "artful life." I particularly love folk art and anything that is inspired by words. I have been very blessed to be able to collect certain things that speak to me and inspire me.
I was thrilled beyond belief when I received the email from Jen O'Connor of Earth Angels about my fav artist, Deirdre Friebely's, latest spring inspired paintings. I was just happy to actually look at the fresh crop of paintings on my computer, but you can imagine how happy I was when two of them appeared on my doorstep!!!
My Deirdre Friebely collection is now up to eight paintings!!! Here are the latest in detail...
The first painting is entitled "Alive with Sunlight." Like all of Deirdre's works it is mixed media on gallery wrapped canvas using acrylics and ephemera.
Here is a detail of the two lovely girls in the painting. They make me happy.
Here is a closeup to show how Deirdre uses ephemera. As I have written about before, all of her paintings seem to be inspired by one small phrase, which in this case was "alive with sunlight" as shown in the flower's leaf.

The second painting that I acquired recently is entitled "Between us girls." It is just perfect because I love the use of birds in artwork and I love that it reminds me of my two little girls who are becoming the best of friends! When I unwrapped this painting to show Miss Avery she drew in her breath in a small swoon. You can never start art appreciation too early! She instantly wanted the painting to be in her room because she is going to start sharing a room with Piper soon. She read my mind because that is EXACTLY where this painting should go! They have a long future ahead of them of sisterly secrets to be kept "between us girls."

I am so happy to be in contact with both Deirdre Friebely and Jen O'Connor. I love being able to email the artist and tell her how much I appreciate her work. I also love that she responds every time! I am so grateful that I stumbled upon Jen O'Connor's Earth Angels tent at the Country Living Fair in Columbus. Since then she has been very inspiring. She has taken time from her busy schedule to answer my questions about her background and how she got started in her business. I am hoping and dreaming and wishing that I will get to meet Jen in person at The Creative Connection Event this fall. Minneapolis is a ten hour drive from Indianapolis, but I feel like I would get so much from going and learning from so many creative women! 
Okay one more thing because I am on a roll....a couple of months ago I scored these birdcages. I have yet to hang them. I love them because my mom has a thing for birdcages. She said she likes to display them with the cage door open to show that the bird has been set free. I really like that thought, so it was time for me to get some birdcages of my own! I am going to hang these beauties in the arch between our family room and living room. I toyed with the idea of spray painting them a fun color, but in the end, I think they look so pretty just the way they are.

I love my creative little daughter with all her nifty art. I love the eclectic blend of items and how they fall together in your home for such a peaceful, fun feeling. I think of you and I as birds, colorful creatures that can not be confined or truly defined by those around us. Birds are mystical to me. The door should be opened so that we (the birds) are free to come and go as we please. If we are given the love and support of a safe place to regenerate our amazing energies we always return to that home. There is no need to capture us as we are creatures of free will. We will sit and sing happily at the door and go in on our own. Shut that door, trap us in any way and we will be sure to fly the moment the door cracks open. Always leave the door open, even if the bird is inside.
