Career Choices

While waiting for our pediatrician to come in and give Piper her six month check-up last week, Avery was fascinated by the plastic model of the esophagus and the poster of the inner ear. She asked what seemed like a hundred questions about what each part of the ear did and why. I really didn't know the answers to most of her questions. Finally, I said, "Maybe when you grow up you could be a pediatrician like Dr. Hannah. You could help sick kids and learn all about the body." She looked at me with wide eyes that were brimming with tears and said solemnly, "I just want to be a fairy." I loved her so much at that moment that I hugged her and said that also sounded like a fine choice!
