Halloween 2009

We had a spook-tacular Halloween! Since summer, Avery has been asking to dress up like Word Girl, an obscure PBS superhero that fights evil with her large vocabulary (right up my alley!). She insisted that Piper dress up like Captain Huggy Face, who is Word Girl's monkey sidekick (very fitting in our real lives).

This is the real Word Girl and Captain Huggy Face.

This is my Word Girl in action. Fighting the planet with her colossal vocabulary.

Only a superhero like WordGirl, endowed with power punches and dictionary strength, can put the word-wrenching scoundrels back in their place proving once again that crime doesn’t pay…but knowing the right word for the right moment is priceless. (I did not write that, by the way. It is off the Word Girl website!)

Did you really think we could get through taking pictures without the famous thumb? It must run in the family because that is my little brother Daniel popping his thumb too. He is dressed like Cassanova, if you were wondering. Crazy college kids.

And yes, of course, there was more thumb action in later pictures that night.
